Guide for Family Worship and Bible Reading in 2013

At our church we have put together an annual family worship guide that provides weekly direction and suggestions for leading your family in worship (family devotions).  The idea behind the guide to make family worship a priority, simple, beneficial, and regular.  This guide utilizes the New City Catechism as well as a reading plan that is manageable for families and individuals of all ages.   In our own experience at the Shirley house, resources like this make it so much easier for us to make the bible a part of the language of our household.  Some days our time together last 5 minutes and ends with discipline, laughter, or a poopy diaper.  Other times it drags on for 20 minutes with little ones asking important questions about Christ, faith, and eternity.  By having a guide things are kept simple.  And if you don’t keep it simple you won’t keep it up.

Let me challenge you to make the bible, worship, and prayer a part of the fabric of your home in 2013.  Feel free to use the Family Worship Guide we are using at GCC Wilmington.  You can access it HERE.  Each day this week I am going to be posting on the importance of doing something like this in your household (no matter what the make-up of your home)  Additionally, each Monday I plan to post the schedule for the upcoming week.  Here is what WEEK 1 & WEEK 2 look like:

A couple of notes: 1) the underlined sections of the answers are for the children to memorize; 2) weekly Lord’s day worship is an irreplaceable part of family worship which is why it is emphasized in the schedule.
