Weekend Wrap up (1.9.12)

Another weekend of worship and ministry has passed, which means it’s time to recap some of what happened at Grace Community Church.  In case you missed it, or need a reminder, here it is:

Sunday Morning: A Dependent Church (pt. 1)

Sunday morning we began to look at Acts 4:23-35, where we see what a church that is dependent upon God looks like:

When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit,

“‘Why did the Gentiles rage,

and the peoples plot in vain?

26 The kings of the earth set themselves,

and the rulers were gathered together,

against the Lord and against his Anointed’—

27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. 32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Sunday Night: A Testimony of God’s Providence

During our evening service I had the opportunity to share the story of how a Florida boy ended up pastoring a church in Delawhere? I mean Delaware.  Look for the audio to be up later this week.

Preaching & Pizza

I’m not sure if the folks here in Delaware knew how serious I was about Sunday night Pizza, but I think they are figuring it out.  This Sunday was our first Preaching and Pizza service! Immediately after our worship service we had a time of fellowship around Pizza.  One of our rules during our Sunday night fellowship time is that we are only allowed to talk about spiritual things (no weather for 45 minutes).  In order to help I provided the followings questions as a guide:

  1. What does it mean to be dependent upon God?
  2. In what practical ways do you struggle to have a dependent attitude toward God?
  3. Explain why a dependent church must be committed to one another. (v. 23)
  4. Explain why a dependent church must pray. (v. 24a)
  5. Explain why a dependent church must find comfort in the Sovereignty of God?
    • What are some the resources (ordinary means of Grace) God has given us?
    • What does Hebrews 10:23-25 says on this issue?
  1. How does prayer reflect your trust in God?
    • How are you personally doing in this area?
  1. Are your circumstances outside the control of the one and only Sovereign Lord?
    • How have you seen the Providence of God unfold in the life of Grace Community Church?
