After an exciting weekend of ministry it is fitting to take the time to recap the events of the weekend. In fact, in the future this will be a regular feature of the blog. On Monday mornings I will post a recap of Sunday messages with application questions, a reminder of the bible reading plan, a weekly memory verse, and any other thoughts pertaining to the weekend’s events.
This week will be an abbreviated (and brief) version since the internet has not been connected at out house yet and I have already been at Starbucks for several hours!
Wonderful Start to New Year & New Ministry
This past Sunday, New Year’s Day, marked my first Sunday in the pulpit of Grace Community Church at Wilmington. For many reasons it was an amazing day, but most of all it was amazing because we were finally able to gather with the saints in Wilmington to worship the Lord together.
I preached a sermon from 2 Cor 3:1-6 entitled “What to Look for in a Pastor.”
Here were the main points:
2 Corinthians 3:1-6 provides us with 5 credentials to look for in a Pastor:
- Look for a Pastor who is Compliant with God’s Standards (v. 1)
- Look for a Pastor who is a Conduit of Spiritual Life (vv. 2-3)
- Look for a Pastor who is Confident through Christ (v. 4)
- Look for a Pastor who is Competent through God (vv. 5-6a)
- Look for a Pastor who is Consumed with Grace (v. 6b)
Reading the Bible Together
I am hoping that some of the folks of our church will join me this year as a read through the bible, and it would be great if any of the blog readers would like to do the same. Here is a link to the plan I will be using: http://www.esv.org/assets/pdfs/rp.one.year.tract.pdf . Let me know if you plan on joining me, or if you have another plan you are using.
Check back next week for another edition of the weekend wrap up…
